As law departments explore how to apply artificial intelligence, Hyundai's Legal team is demonstrating that lasting transformation comes not from deploying isolated AI tools, but from redesigning the operating model behind legal work. Under the leadership of Tyler Kemp, Manager of Legal Operations, the department is embedding AI into the workflows that move matters, information, and decisions across the enterprise. Developed in collaboration with Harbor and implemented through legal technology provider MyLegal, the initiative has earned recognition as a finalist in the 2026 Running Legal Like a Business (RLLB) Awards in both Best Transformation Project and Innovator of the Year.
The transformation begins with two foundational workflows: Service of Process and warranty litigation. In both areas, AI has been embedded into day-to-day operations to streamline intake, accelerate matter preparation, improve consistency, and reduce manual effort, while ensuring legal professionals remain responsible for oversight and decision-making. Hyundai is treating both as the starting point for repeatable operating patterns it plans to extend across the department.
At the center of Tyler Kemp's strategy is orchestration: creating an operating environment where information moves seamlessly between legal systems and routine work happens automatically, allowing legal professionals to spend less time on administrative tasks and more time applying legal judgment. Harbor has helped shape the future-state operating model and provide transformation oversight, while MyLegal is implementing the technology that brings the vision to life.
That operational discipline is what makes Hyundai's initiative repeatable: the workflow redesign comes first, and the AI capabilities are built to support it. It gives other legal departments a concrete starting point for embedding AI into everyday operations and turning it into measurable business value going forward.
